Recently I travelled to Kensington, SW London for a baby and family photography session of Marianne with her proud parents.
At only 10 weeks old, Marianne was an absolute pleasure to photograph. She was extremely bright and alert with a beautiful smile that melted the heart. We started off indoors where I captured images of the family playing together with mum and dad singing songs to Marianne, and also some more intimate moments with plenty of cuddles and love.
Despite earlier rain and the threat of some more from the clouds above, we decided to brave the chilly weather and headed outside for some quick family portraits in the local private gardens, also showing the fabulous architecture of Kensington to set the scene. After a few minutes, and with Marianne drifting off to sleep, the anticipated rain began to fall again so we returned inside for some dreamy shots of baby asleep.
The perfect end to a baby and family photography session in Kensington SW London.
And in stark contrast to my previous blog post, this weekend we saw a few inches of snow. Not too much, all but the back roads were well gritted and free running, and only just over 200 of the Kent schools felt they had to close for at least one day this time round, which is probably an all time low number compared to previous years!
Of course you can’t have a covering of snow without the obligatory snow ball fights and sledging fun, especially when you have a 10 year old (whose school had managed to stay open) and a suitable slope a mere couple of minutes away from the front door. So we hunted through the shed to find the sledge, donned our warmest clothing, grabbed the camera and headed out. As it was Sunday the slope was well occupied with children and their parents enjoying a weekend a little different from normal, and laughter could be heard all afternoon as children raced downhill before toppling over and tumbling to a halt.
As darkness started to fall and the cold wind got the better of us we decided to call it a day and returned home thoroughly worn out and wet but happy.
After a change of clothes and a sit down with a home made Lancashire hot pot, I realized that days like this don’t come often enough, and although the photo below is only really a snapshot, I’m so glad that I’ve got it to remind me in years to come of my lads enjoyment of the wintery spell.
It doesn’t have to be a warm summers day to have a child or family photography session, so if you’re brave enough to brave the elements and would like some unique photography of you child, children or family and you live in the London, Kent or Essex areas please send me an email and tell me your ideas.
Remember before the weather turned cold and snowy? It wasn’t that long ago as can be seen in this image taken as part of a location portrait session of two brothers in a local country park close to their home in Kent.
What I love most about these location photography sessions is that they give children the chance to be themselves, run around, have fun and forget that I’m there, which of course means I can capture their true personalities. This image was taken right at the end of the session after 2 hours of fun and games, the boys playfully announced that they were tired and plonked themselves down on the nearest bench to rest….for a whole 30 seconds before jumping up and tearing off again!
If you live in London, Kent or Essex and would like me to come along to a location local to you for a photography session of your children or family, please get in touch.
Here’s an image from a fun pet photography session with an American Cocker Spaniel. This young lady was a real clown and seemed to relish the chance to make me laugh by rolling on her back and wagging her tail, standing on her two back legs whilst yapping, and putting her two front paws over her nose as if to cover her eyes.
Dog and cat photography sessions are always tremendous fun, and can be equally challenging for both photographer and the ‘model’, but as I bring the studio to the clients home the pets are nearly always relaxed and at their natural best.
If you live in the London, Kent, Essex or Surrey areas and would like a beautiful portrait of your pet please do get in touch.
Our Christmas mini photo sessions begin again in November, and judging by previous years, spaces will be taken very quickly.
The sessions which are 45 minutes long are open to all babies up to 2 years old and take place in our own warm, comfortable, purpose built baby studio in Gravesend with plenty of free parking available.
Photos from these sessions are ideal for Christmas cards, presents (especially for granny and grandad) or as mementos for how your baby looked at Christmas 2012.
The session price is £50 and includes 15 images edited to perfection and put on a disc for you to print as you please (although we offer many print options should you want to leave it to the experts).
Look forward to meeting you soon
Prior booking is essential as session times are very limited and take place at 10am, 11am, and 12noon weekends only from November 3rd to December 16th.
Maximum of two people in any one sitting (mum and baby, baby and sibling or baby and dad etc)
To book a date please email: email@example.com with the session date/time you would like and your contact details.
Sessions are booked on a first come first served basis, and the £50 session fee is required to be paid as soon as we confirm your slot is available.
Details are still coming in, and this photo is being checked for authenticity, but this little girl claims to have had a “Magical time playing with the fairies”
For a short time we are able to offer some free baby, child or family photography sessions.
We can come to your home with our mini studio, or maybe you’d prefer making the most of our marvelous British summer time (!) and fancy dodging the showers in an outdoor session which are always great fun [no matter what the weather].
So if you have recently had a new baby arrive in the family, know someone else who has, or maybe think it’s about time to have a family portrait taken please get in touch as soon as possible as sessions will take place on a first come first served basis.
Mobile studio photography
Lat week I returned with my mobile studio to the home of Ezra and Elijah for the final session of their First Footsteps plan. It’s been almost a year since their last photo session, and 18 months since their first, when they were just 4 months old.
It’s always wonderful to watch little ones grow and develop over the course of the First Footsteps photo sittings, and I’m sure that by the third session most of my little clients recognise me when I arrive at the doorstep and realise that it’s ‘time to play’ again!
Once again we captured some lovely images, and even managed to get out into the garden for a few minutes between the heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Here are just a few….
I was recently asked to photograph my local year 6′s last day in primary school. All the children dressed up for the occasion, as at 3.30pm sharp they climbed into two stretch Hummer Limosines (one for the girls and one for the boys) before being whisked around for an hour whilst drinking [non alcoholic] wines and other tipples, eventually arriving via a VIP entrance to their destination of a fantastic leavers party in their honour.
It was a very special milestone in their lives, which the children obviously understood, as by the end of the evening almost all of them had tears in their eyes at the thought of not seeing their friends every school day any more. It was clear that some very special lifelong friendships had been created during their seven years at ‘little school’, and I felt quite honoured to witness these young men and women leave behind a major time in their lives.
